📣 Focus on Vaccination in Prison Settings – RISE-Vac Guidance Now Available

Dear colleagues,

As part of European Immunization Week, we are pleased to share with you the latest guidance published by the European RISE-Vac project, coordinated by the University of Pisa, on strengthening vaccination services in prison settings.

🔎 Why is this document important?People in prison often face high levels of social and health vulnerability, yet have limited access to prevention services like vaccination. The newly released guidance, titled “Strengthening vaccination services in prison settings: public health guidance,” offers actionable recommendations aimed at improving vaccination strategies in correctional environments, tailored to different epidemiological contexts and resource levels.

📘 The guidance provides:

  • A flexible, incremental model for improving vaccination services

  • Real-world case studies

  • Policy and operational recommendations for both health and prison sector decision-makers

  • Practical solutions to key structural challenges, such as post-release continuity of care and vaccination record-keeping

📚 Free educational tools availableRISE-Vac also developed multilingual training and educational materials, created through a participatory approach involving people in detention and prison staff. These include e-learning modules, brochures, and short videos—all freely accessible at:👉 RISE-Vac Educational Tools

This initiative represents a significant step toward promoting health equity in prison settings, which remains a priority in our daily work.
