ree

On 6 February 2026, healthcare professionals, public health experts, and institutional partners will gather in Carcassonne (Occitanie, France) for a regional conference dedicated to the management of viral hepatitis in prison settings.

Titled “Hepatitis Behind Bars: Acting Together in Healthcare Units in Occitanie”, this event aims to strengthen coordination and promote evidence-based practices across prison healthcare units. The programme will address key public health challenges, including screening strategies, treatment pathways, continuity of care during and after incarceration, vaccination, and harm reduction approaches.

Special attention will be given to European guidelines for the elimination of hepatitis C in prisons, as well as to the management of hepatitis B and D, HIV co-infections, and innovative training tools such as European e-learning initiatives on vaccination in custodial settings.

By bringing together clinicians, nurses, researchers, and institutional stakeholders, this initiative highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary and coordinated approach to improve health outcomes for people deprived of liberty and to contribute to broader public health goals.

This event reflects a strong commitment to equitable access to healthcare, continuity of care, and the reduction of health inequalities in detention settings.👉 Registration details (online form, access information, and practical details) will be published soon on the Health Without Barriers website.
