The Human Rights Charta

As an organization, Health Without Barriers is committed to contributing with all of its available means to ensure that the health-related human rights of people in prisons are duly respected, protected and fulfilled. In particular, and in line with the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment of Punishment (CPT) and the UN Nelson Mandela Rules, Health Without Barriers promotes seven basic principles of quality prison healthcare, which were encoded in the Health Without Barriers Human Rights Charta, a work that has been accomplished in January 2017 by the Human Rights working group co-chaired by Prof. Hans Wolff and Stefan Enggist, with the aim to reiterate the core ethical obligations health-care staff working in prisons, and responsible authorities, should comply with.
